Churchill War Rooms

A firm favourite for visitors, a visit to the Churchill War Rooms is a step back into the time of Britain’s ‘Darkest Hour’ when the threat from Nazi Germany was incredibly real.

See historic rooms such as where the Cabinet met during the worst days of the Blitz, the Map Room that provided vital information for the entire period of the war, and Churchill’s bedroom and office from where he gave inspiring broadcasts to the country.

Pick your way down the narrow corridors that were home to hundreds of workers throughout the war, hear about the dangers and privations faced, and come away with a better sense of the dedication and heroism that was on display every day.

The site also includes the Churchill Museum, a space dedicated to all the 90 years of Britain’s wartime prime minister. We’ll discover all about his aristocratic upbringing, his early years as a soldier and journalist, and his long career as a politician.

You’ll come away from a War Rooms tour knowing a lot more of the secrets of the place and the history of WW2 and Winston Churchill than before.

Don was well informed and a pleasure to listen to. He was great at pointing out the highlights of the war rooms museum, including the “hidden” gems that we would have missed – a quality I appreciate in an expert guide.

We had a wonderful tour of the Churchill War Rooms and learned so much.

We enjoyed the tour immensely and would recommend Don to anyone wanting to do the war room tour.
